According to its author Barry Foy, the Devils Food Dictionary is a pioneering culinary reference work composed entirely of lies. Here are a few unrepresentative samples:
Cannibal: A person who engages in the culinary equivalent of incest, that is, a hunter-gatherer who hunts and gathers other hunter-gatherers, usually while they are out gathering, because they tend to be less alert at that time than when they are out hunting. Cannibals often consume particular parts in hopes of magically improving their own corresponding parts. For example, a warrior might eat an admired rivals heart so as to increase the boldness of his own heart. In a similar spirit, he might make a meal of his neighbor's nubile and attractive wife.
Chef: A hereditary title bestowed on any member of an American restaurant kitchen who is not a native Spanish speaker.
Chef, Celebrity: An accomplished chef who, because his food’s prices have reached their conceivable upper limit, is forced to host TV series, appear on culinary cruises, and open proxy establishments in Las Vegas in order to avoid income stagnation. Celebrity chefs are believed to have better and more frequent sex than regular chefs.
Chinese Restaurant Names: In North America, a Chinese restaurant’s name is formed by combining any word from column A, below, with a word from column B.
