The Essence of Biodynamics
Written by Sophia Zonderling
At its core, Biodynamic agriculture is a system of attunement based on the premise that the farm, the earth, and the entire cosmos is a single, self-regulating, ecosystem.

Biodynamic farmers are taught to reawaken their intuitive relationship with the environment. They feel that the farm can be understood more deeply and nurtured more effectively by observing and integrating natural cyclical rhythms during sowing, cultivation and harvesting, and by thinking in terms of forces and processes rather than simply substances and amendments.

Biodynamics also involves attentive observance of the stars and the seasons and involves subtle soil preparations made from herbs, minerals, and animal manures. Animal welfare is also given extensive consideration and the use of antibiotics is prohibited. Biological diversity within the farm landscape is emphasized, as is the importance of locally grown food for sustaining farm animals.

Gardens are patches of land where,
with the help of fruits and vegetables,
we can grow people.
