Sanford Pinot Noir
Written by Godfrey Daniels

With cherry, charred-oak, and sage aromas and delicate yet brightly acidic notes of toasty cherry on the palate, the 2007 Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit drawn from its estate vineyards in the heart of the Santa Rita Hills.

Located in one of the top spots in the world to grow this finicky varietal, the winery's La Rinconada vineyard, and the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard nearby, produce a pinot that makes a perfect match for grilled fish, oven-roasted root-vegetables and earthy young goat or sheepsmilk cheeses.

Committed to sustainable farming since 1984, Sanford Winery was the first Santa Barbara County winery to have its estate vineyards certified as organic. According to owner Richard Sanford, “there are ways to live where nature and agriculture work together.” The vineyard is located in the coastal hills of Santa Barbara County 20 miles from the ocean.
